A(nother) new beginning

Hi everyone!

This is a different kind of weight-loss blog. You see, I already lost my weight. The problem is I gained about half of it back. Here's the story:

I entered college at a healthy weight for a 17 year-old. However, the life of fraternity excess left its legacy... 100lbs worth. I began my senior year at the incredibly unhealthy weight of 350 lbs.

I've always been a thick guy, but I've always made it look good. I made a lifestyle choice to lose it. After I lost a few pounds during my last few months at college, I decided to delay my "life" and head for two years of graduate study.

I ran my first marathon that first fall.

While at graduate school, I decided that ROTC would be a great option for me. I already had a Graduate Assistant stipend so I wasn't doing it for the money. Army ROTC worked with me to get me into good shape.

I ran my second marathon that spring.

That summer, I went to a modified form of Basic Training at Fort Knox. I was very successful but still not under the weight required by the Army.

That fall, I ran my third marathon.

By the winter of 2007, I was in peak shape. My PT test run (2 miles) was less than 14:30. That fall, however, I also fell in love. My girlfriend was totally against my decision to join so I left ROTC for her. Unfortunately, as I finished my Master's I lost my workout discipline because my thesis was my life and there was no old drill sergeant forcing me to run every morning at 5AM. The weight began to come back...

That spring, I ran my fourth and most recent marathon.

That's where I sit now. My girlfriend and I have decided that I am going to pursue a career as an Army officer. Unfortunately, in order for a recruiter to look at me seriously, I need to get back down to a healthy weight. I have another marathon in two months.

A lot is riding on me getting back into shape.
